Anopa's own roots are in Southern Africa, and half of the work we do looks toward the continent. The WHO African Region carries some of the highest recorded rates of intimate partner violence in the world, and the data gap is itself part of the problem.

Country figures come from each nation's own Demographic and Health Survey, published with the DHS Program, and from WHO regional estimates. Surveys are conducted in different years and ask slightly different questions, so numbers should be read as national estimates rather than as a league table. Where a country has no recent survey, we say so rather than fill the gap.
